Background

Dr. Julian Okafor is the specialist at Aldessa who makes sure the foundation is sound before anything is built on it. Implants rarely fail because of the post — they fail because of the tissue around it. His role is to stop that from happening.

He earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery at the University of Texas School of Dentistry in Houston, followed by a three-year periodontics residency at the University of Washington, where he concentrated on soft tissue grafting, regenerative surgery, and the treatment of peri-implant disease. His training links surgical and restorative dentistry, which gives him a clear view of how gum health shapes the long-term success of every implant.

At Aldessa, he checks the gums and bone of every implant patient before treatment starts. For patients with receding gums, tissue loss, or active gum disease, he carries out the grafting and stabilizing work needed before an implant goes in. Afterward, he looks after the health of the tissue around each implant over the long term — the biggest single factor in whether an implant lasts five years or twenty-five. He also runs the clinic's hygiene standards and preventive care programs.
