Finish the prep with clear, continuous margins, then manage the tissue: place retraction cord wherever a margin sits at or below the gum line, and give it time to work. Control saliva with suction, cheek retractors, and dry angles, and keep blood away from the finish line. Veneer preps are often shallow and stay in enamel, so a dry, glare-free surface matters even more. Take the shade under neutral light before you scan, and photograph it next to a shade tab for the lab.

Follow One Scan Path

Use one sequence so the whole team scans the same way. Start on the posterior occlusal surfaces to establish stable tracking, roll to the lingual, then finish on the buccal. Around the prepared teeth, slow down and hold the tip at a steady distance so the software can stitch the margin cleanly. Remove the cord just before you capture the margin, then scan the prep right away while the sulcus is still open. Include the adjacent teeth, the full span of any bridge, and enough of the arch for the lab to design contacts, and scan the opposing arch in full.

Bite and Refinements

Record the bite only after both arches are complete. Guide the patient into a steady, repeatable closure, then scan the buccal on each side, close to the restoration. Check the articulated view right away: contacts should look plausible, with no gaps or collisions you did not see clinically. Then refine. Zoom in on each margin and look for holes, smeared areas, or a finish line that fades into the tissue. If a section is weak, trim and rescan it instead of starting over. On veneers, check the incisal edges and facial surfaces from several angles, since small gaps there show on the final work. A few minutes of review costs less than a remake.

Review and Hand Off

Before you export, run a short QC pass on the margins, contacts, opposing anatomy, and bite. Then send the file with a brief note: tooth numbers, material, shade, prep type, and anything unusual about the margins or occlusion. Name files the same way every time. A clear scan and a clear note let the lab start work without calling you back.

A step-by-step restorative scanning routine with margin capture checks, bite registration, refinements, and a clean handoff to the lab.

[2

post-103","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-dental-implants
["GET
